More Than Money: Strategies to Build Women’s Economic Power offers advice to grant makers seeking to improve the economic status and well-being of women. The report draws from the experiences of the Global Fund for Women, which supports labor-rights advocacy, loans to help women start small businesses, and vocational-skills training in developing countries, among other programs. The fund suggests that grant makers support not only economic-development programs, but also those that fight systemic gender discrimination and provide child care, education for girls, and family planning. The report gives tips on what foundations should look for in selecting programs to finance, and highlights several successful programs run by grantees. It also shares lessons the fund learned in different geographic regions, such as Africa and Latin America.
