Lumina Foundation Names Next President

The Lumina Foundation for Education, in Indianapolis, has selected the president of a higher-education research and policy center to be its next president, starting January 1, reports The Indianapolis Star.
Jamie P. Merisotis founded the Institute for Higher Education Policy, in Washington, 14 years ago, the paper reports. He will replace Martha D. Lamkin, Lumina’s outgoing president and its founder.
“In a very high-profile way, Jamie will help Lumina advocate for a better-educated, civically engaged workforce to ensure individual opportunity — and our nation’s prosperity — amid global competition,” John M. Mutz, Lumina’s board chairman, said in an announcement on the foundation’s Web site.
The Lumina Foundation held assets of more than $1.3-billion in 2006, according to the Chronicle’s most recent survey on big foundations.
