MacArthur Foundation Backs New Journalism Effort

A newly formed journalism nonprofit group announced a deal Thursday to provide articles and other editorial materials for a New York Times Chicago edition to start next month, according to the Times.
The Chicago News Cooperative will be led by James E. O’Shea, a former Los Angeles Times editor and Chicago Tribune managing editor, and has financial backing from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Last week the Times started a San Francisco edition and is in talks with a Bay Area nonprofit journalism project started by the financier Warren Hellman to supply editorial content.
