Maine Charity Worker Charged With Theft

Police last week arrested an employee of a Maine nonprofit organization responsible for its bookkeeping, filing, and payroll, alleging she had stolen $60,000 or more from the charity, reports The Bangor Daily News.
Two employees of Adoptive & Foster Families of Maine became suspicious of their colleague, Katherine Ratliff, and alerted the police after reviewing financial records with the organization’s bank, the newspaper reports.
Police say Ms. Ratliff, who used several dozen aliases and is wanted for identity fraud in South Carolina, may have used the charity’s money for personal items and to finance a car. The alleged theft has strained the small charity’s finances, its officials said.
Ms. Ratliff did not comment in the article.
