January 10, 2008
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has given $25-million to establish a center to work on ways to conserve oceans, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Center for Ocean Solutions, in Monterey, Calif., will gather international scholars and will be run by Stanford University, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and other nearby research institutions. It will focus on issues such as climate change and overfishing, and plans to improve graduate-level marine education, sponsor fellowships for people who have completed graduate studies, and offer courses for corporate and government leaders.
