The International Youth Foundation hopes to raise $200-million for youth groups in just 60 minutes. In the same amount of time, Share Our Strength expects to raise at least $500,000 for programs to combat childhood hunger.
Both organizations plan to meet their fund-raising goals through separate, new programs, each called the Children’s Hour, which will encourage companies and individuals to donate the last hour of their earnings in this millennium.
The organizations are asking people to make a contribution equal to one hour of their wages. Companies are being asked to participate by donating the equivalent of one hour’s revenue or taking other steps.
The International Youth Foundation, in Baltimore, is running its campaign in 20 countries. Share Our Strength, in Washington, will run its campaign in the United States and is focusing on companies in the restaurant and food industries.
