Mother Files Child-Abuse Lawsuit Against Charity and Volunteer

A mother has sued a male volunteer convicted of molesting her son, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters, reports the Akron Beacon Journal, in Ohio.
“Jane Doe,” whose name is not being released to protect her son’s identity, filed a lawsuit against the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Summit and Medina Counties, as well as the national office, arguing that the group did not sufficiently screen Richard Mansfield, a former volunteer with the group, who is currently serving 14 years in prison for the child’s abuse.
In 2005 the boy told his mother that Mr. Mansfield had been abusing him for seven years. The suit asks for more than $25,000 from each of the plaintiffs.
