Muslim Group Reports Drop in Donations

The Council on American-Islamic Relations says it has seen a recent decline in membership and fund raising, which the group blames on being publicly named by the U.S. government as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a lawsuit against a Texas charity, reports The Washington Times.

The council had sought to prevent the U.S. government from disclosing the names of the 300 organizations and individuals listed as unindicted co-conspirators by the Justice Department in the trial against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, which is now under way.

In a brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, CAIR says that its inclusion on the government’s list “has impeded its ability to collect donations, as possible donors either do not want to give to them because they think they are a ‘terrorist’ organization or are too scared to give to them because of the possible legal ramifications of donating money to a ‘terrorist’ organization.”
