Nature Conservancy Responds to Internet Security Breach

Many former and all current employees of the Nature Conservancy are in danger of having their identities stolen after one of the organization’s employees inadvertently downloaded a spyware program last month, reports The Washington Post.
The program seized personal information of up to 14,000 people, including names, home addresses, Social Security numbers, and bank-routing numbers.
Conservancy officials contacted the FBI to notify them of the security breach, and the organization’s spokesman Jim Patterson says, “We’re doing a review of all our security practices, and trying to educate staff about best practices for the Internet.”
The organization is also offering every affected adult a free year of credit monitoring.
