New Carolinas United Way Leader Aims to Rebuild Trust After Pay Scandal

The new head of the United Way of Central Carolinas is seeking to repair donor relations fractured by the controversy over her predecessor’s compensation, The Charlotte Observer reports.
Jane McIntyre, head of the YWCA Central Carolinas, was named Friday to the United Way post, replacing Gloria Pace King, who was ousted last year amid criticism of her $1.2-million pay package.
The chapter’s collections dropped by about $15-million last year as the recession and donor concerns about financial management cut into giving. Several major employers that previously held United Way-only fund-raising drives are mulling a switch to open campaigns.
