New Orleans Hospitals Continue to Struggle

The continuing effort of New Orleans’s hospitals to remain financially viable is the subject of a report and testimony to be presented to a Congressional committee today, reports The Times-Picayune, of New Orleans.
The report on five nonprofit hospitals examines their financial state and shows that they lost a combined $60-million in the first five months of this year. Hospital officials are expected to tell the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations that government support of the city’s ailing medical system has been insufficient, the newspaper reports.
“Our message is that we appreciate what has been done, both on the federal and state level, but the bottom line is it isn’t enough,” Mark Peters, president of East Jefferson General Hospital, told the paper.
