North Carolina Investigates Lawmaker’s Charity

A nonprofit group overseen by North Carolina State Representative Thomas Wright is under investigation for allegedly using state funds to buy property under “false pretense,” reports WRAL.com.
The State Bureau of Investigation seized records of the New Hanover Community Health Center, for which Mr. Wright serves as chairman of the board. The center sought $150,000 in state financing to purchase a building for a museum dedicated to the 1898 Wilmington Race Riot, the news organization says, but the money apparently was not used for that purpose.
Mr. Wright has also been criticized for not disclosing campaign donations. The news organization said the lawmaker could not be reached for comment.
