Nutrition Group’s Obama Girls Poster Raises White House Ire

The White House has asked a Washington nonprofit organization dedicated to nutrition policy to take down advertisements that refer to Sasha and Malia Obama, The Washington Post reports.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has declined to remove the ads calling for changes in the federal Child Nutrition Act, which went up last week in the capital’s Union Station, a place where many Congressional aides visit as part of their daily commute. They show an 8-year-old girl — a vegetarian whose Florida school district does not offer any vegetarian meal options — asking, “President Obama’s daughters get healthy school lunches. Why don’t I?”

Neal Barnard, the organization’s president, said the Office of the White House Counsel contacted him last week and told him “mentioning the president’s children was off-limits.” Mr. Barnard said he remains in contact with the administration but plans to maintain the campaign through its scheduled end on August 31.
