Official Figures Show Yale Endowment Down 25%

September 23, 2009

Yale University’s endowment lost 24.6 percent of its value in the last fiscal year, Reuters reports, citing official figures released by the university on Tuesday.

The nation’s second-biggest college endowment stood at $16.3-billion on June 30, down from $22.9-billion 12 months earlier, as major investments in alternative assets such as private equity, real estate, and commodities soured after producing double-digit annual gains for several years.
