The Ecovolunteer Web site enables potential volunteers to find environmental projects around the world.
The group, based in Hengelo, the Netherlands, lists opportunities to volunteer for projects in at least 17 countries. Visitors can search the data base by location, type of work, or type of species they want to help protect.
Those who select Sierra Leone, for example, will find information on a program in Freetown that provides sanctuary to endangered chimpanzees. Potential volunteers who discover a project that meets their interests can fill out an application form on line.
Information on the site is only in English now, but Roel Cosijn, director of the Ecovolunteer program, says that the group hopes to eventually make it available in other languages as well.
