Online Gift-Card Reseller Adds School-Donation Option

August 25, 2009 | Read Time: 1 minute

A California company that buys, sells, and exchanges unused retail gift cards has added an option for customers to donate the card’s full value to needy schools, The New York Times reports in its technology blog Bits.

Plastic Jungle, a for-profit company, typically buys the cards at a discount and resells them for slightly more than it paid but less than the card’s original value. In May, the firm struck a partnership with DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that allows online donors to browse aid requests from public-school teachers and give to specific projects.
