Organizations Getting Grants from Ford

Following are the organizations that received grants from the new Ford program:

DANCE

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (New York): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over three years.

The money will be used to set up an endowed fund to support new works and to add to the endowments of educational and outreach programs.

Ballet Memphis: $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over three years. The money will be used to create an endowment to pay for general operating costs and for other purposes.

Huber Street Dance Chicago: $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over four years. The money will be used to create an endowment to finance new choreographic works and other artistic programs and for other purposes.


San Francisco Ballet: $2.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $5-million over five years for its endowment to create new artistic works.


LITERATURE

Academy of American Poets (New York): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2-million over five years . The money will be used to establish a reserve fund to finance new artistic efforts and for other purposes.

Loft Literary Center (Minneapolis): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1-million over five years. The money will be used to create an endowment and for other purposes.

Western Folklife Center (Elko, Nev.): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2-million over three years. The money will be used for an endowment to finance literary programs and for other purposes.


MEDIA

Appalshop (Whitesburg, N.Y.): $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over five years. The money will be added to an endowment for production and education programs, among other purposes.


Film Forum (New York): $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over five years. The money will be used to establish an endowment for artistic programs and for other purposes.

Sundance Festival (Park City, Utah): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2-million over three years. The money will be added to the organizations general-operations endowment, among other purposes.


MUSIC

Jazz at Lincoln Center (New York): $2-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2-million. The money will be added to the organizations general-operations endowment and used to support artistic programs.

Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (Mich.): $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2.5-million over five years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund and for other purposes.

Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra: $2.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $7-million over three years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund.



MUSICAL THEATER

Prince Music Theater (Philadelphia): $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over four years. The money will be used to develop a working-capital reserve and for other purposes.


OPERA

Houston Grand Opera: $2-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $6-million over five years. The money will be used for an endowed fund and to establish a permanent orchestra.

Opera Theatre Saint Louis: $1.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $4.5-million over five years. The money will be used for an endowment and for other purposes.


VISUAL ARTS

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Boston): $1.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over three years. The money will be added to an endowed fund for artistic programs and used to support current programs.

Japanese American National Museum (Los Angeles): $1.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over three years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund for artistic programs and to create a working-capital reserve.


Mint Museum of Art (Charlotte, N.C.): $1.75-million, which the museum plans to match by raising $3.5-million over three years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund for temporary exhibitions and for its general endowment.

National Museum of the American Indian (New York and Washington): $1.5-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over five years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund for a program that uses technology to make broadly available cultural objects and programs developed on Indian reservations.

Site Santa Fe (N.M.): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $2-million over three years. The money will be used to establish a general operating budget and for other purposes.


PERFORMING ARTS

Brooklyn Academy of Music (N.Y.): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3-million over three years. The money will be used for an endowed fund for new works and for other purposes.

Flynn Theatre for the Performing Arts (Burlington, Vt.):$1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over five years. The money will be used for an endowment and for other purposes.


Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (San Antonio): $1-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1-million over five years. The money will be used for an endowment and for other purposes.

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (Newark): $2-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $4-million over five years. The money will be used to establish an endowed fund for artistic programs and to support current programs.


THEATER

Alabama Shakespeare Festival (Montgomery):$1.75-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3.5-million over three years. The money will be used for an endowment and for other purposes.

Center for Puppetry Arts (Atlanta): $1.25-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $1.25-million over three years. The money will be added to its endowment and used for other purposes.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company (Chicago):$1.75-million, which the organization plans to match by raising $3.5-million over three years. The money will be used for an operating endowment and to establish a working-capital reserve.
