Parking Meters Converted to Donation Boxes
July 23, 2007
To help the city’s homeless, a Montreal charity has converted 34 parking meters to donation boxes that accept spare change, reports the Chronicle Journal.
Officials at L’Itineraire, a charity founded in 1990 by formerly homeless people, says that in addition to collecting cash, the refurbished meters will help promote their cause.
The group has taken the precaution of covering the charity parking meters with stickers, to prevent tourists and others from confusing them with regular meters. L’Itineraire hopes eventually to have up to 100 meters throughout the city.
