Pay Disclosed for Leaders at Hawaii’s Nonprofit Hospitals

Big nonprofit health-care systems in Hawaii paid their top executives an average of more than $820,000 in total compensation in 2006, according to a study conducted by The Honolulu Advertiser.
In the context of rising health-care costs, the paper reports that executive pay at hospital systems continues to be a topic of concern for some. While some observers say the pay levels are in line with top hospital pay at for-profit institutions, the paper’s examination of pay at a dozen nonprofit organizations in Hawaii found that top pay at hospitals increased more than 15 percent from 2005 to 2006.
