Peace Corps Recruits More Older Adults

The Peace Corps is tapping into a new and growing demographic of recruits: older adults approaching retirement who want to explore different opportunities, reports The Seattle Times.
About 5 percent of the 7,700 volunteers currently enrolled in the Peace Corps are 50 or older, and the organization wishes to do even more to court this group. Regional offices are dispatching recruiters to appeal to potential volunteers who are at least 50 years old and looking to place these recruits in countries with less extreme climates.
Christine Torres, a Peace Corps spokeswoman for the regional office in Chicago, says of the older recruits: “They have life experience and skills. They bring so much to the table.”
