Public TV and Radio Fans Dig Deep Despite Recession

Several public broadcasting organizations nationwide are reaping increased support from listeners and viewers despite the economic downturn, reports The Washington Post.
Washington’s WAMU-FM has raised record amounts in its last three quarterly fund drives, Maryland Public Television’s June campaign collected 3 percent more than a year before, and Colorado Public Radio increased its membership revenue by 15 percent in the most recent fiscal year.
The increased viewer and listener support has helped soften the blow of reduced corporate and government aid that has led many public broadcasting stations to eliminate jobs and trim programs, the article says.
