Senate Approves $200-Million for Nonprofit Groups That Aid Homeowners

The U.S. Senate has approved $200-million in aid on September 12 for nonprofit organizations to help homeowners avoid foreclosure, reports the Associated Press.

Nonprofit groups such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (commonly known as Acorn), and NeighborWorks America will benefit from the assistance.

Democratic senators Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Robert Casey of Pennsylvania, and Charles Schumer of New York backed the giving of $100-million in grants to nonprofit groups. Senators Christopher Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut, and Christopher Bond, Republican of Missouri, helped to push for an additional $100-million.
