Small Companies Embrace Charity

November 20, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

Though corporate philanthropy is usually the domain of huge companies, small businesses have learned that gifts to charity can help their bottom lines, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Most small companies donate products or other in-kind gifts, the article reports, but some give cash. The article focuses on a brewery in Silver Spring, Md., that donates a penny to local firefighters for every pint it sells. In addition, the brothers who run the brewery donate ten of thousands of dollars to aid burn victims.

The brewery’s donations, which totaled $20,000 last year, do cut into its profits. Nevertheless, the owners believe the positive publicity their giving receives, as well as the loyalty it engenders in consumers, will help it in the long run.
