Soros Grant to Aid Schoolchildren Continues to Draw Criticism

August 18, 2009

The controversy over the $35-million grant from the financier and philanthropist George Soros continues to attract criticisms from politicians, according to a video report by Dow Jones Newswires.

The grant is designed to provide $200 each to 850,000 poor children in New York to purchase school supplies. The Soros gift allows the state to get $140-million from the federal economic-stimulus law, which has drawn critics who say the federal funds should go to create jobs or roll back taxes.
