Streisand Charity Auction Raises More Than $600,000

The entertainer Barbra Streisand sold more than 500 pieces of clothing, furniture, and memorabilia from her personal collection this past weekend at a two-day auction in Beverly Hills, raising more than $600,000 earmarked for Ms. Streisand’s foundation, according to Bloomberg.
Big sellers included a wooden letter “A” that once hung in the singer’s New York apartment; it went for $8,750 after the seller, Julien’s Auctions, dubbed it the “missing letter” in Ms. Streisand’s first name (which famously has a nontraditional spelling). Though that item went for nearly 30 times the pre-sale estimate, many other items, including art and furniture, failed to meet bid projections, which Darren Julien, the auction house’s president, attributed to a “soft market.”
The Streisand Foundation supports a number of causes, including the community-service group City Year, Human Rights Watch, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Planned Parenthood.
