Technology Entrepreneur Pledges Big Gift for Parkinson’s Research

Andy Grove, co-founder of the Intel Corporation, has announced that he will donate as much as $40-million to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to support basic research, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Grove’s gift will also help the foundation start a program that encourages donors to give through wills and other planned gifts, also known as a “Grove Circle.”
Mr. Grove was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2000, five years after a tough battle with prostate cancer. Today, at 71, Mr. Grove is able to control his Parkinson’s symptoms with medication, but says that supporting research for the disease is what has truly rejuvenated him. “I should be embarrassed, but I’m not; I am having a good time doing this,” he says. “I’m playing scientist again.”
