Technology Entrepreneur Says He’ll Donate $100-Million

Henry T. Nicholas III, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, last week announced his intention to give away $100-million over the next five years, reports the Los Angeles Times. He did not specify which charities would receive the money but said it would support youth sports, medical research, and troops in the Middle East.

Mr. Nicholas formed a foundation last December and has made significant gifts to groups that include Habitat for Humanity and a youth basketball league. He gave $10-million in 2004 to St. Mary’s Episcopal School, which his children attend.

Mr. Nicholas left Broadcom in 2003, and in the years since has faced much negative publicity related to a divorce, allegations of involvement with drugs and prostitutes, and federal investigations into his role in alleged stock manipulation.
