Television Ad Calls Attention to Levee Problems

Levees.org, a New Orleans nonprofit flood-control advocacy group, kicked off a national television advertising campaign on Tuesday featuring the comedian Harry Shearer, The Times-Picayune reports.

The campaign aims to make sure other cities and towns with levees realize that they could face a catastrophic flood like New Orleans did during Hurricane Katrina.

Sandy Rosenthal, the organization’s executive director, said the ads are part of her organization’s larger campaign to hold accountable government agencies responsible for preventing flooding.

The 30-second and 15-second advertising spots point out that the Army Corps of Engineers recently informed communities in 28 states that they had found serious flaws in more than 120 levee sections.
