British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital Foundation (Vancouver, Canada): $25,000 for a documentary film that includes information on the treatment of pain in children facing a life-threatening illness.
Children’s National Medical Center (Washington): $45,547 to help identify the severity of pain felt by child burn victims after they leave the hospital, as well as to track their psychological needs.
Compassion in Dying Federation (Portland, Ore.): $160,000 over two years to support legal and advocacy work to increase awareness about the frequency with which pain goes untreated nationally.
Massachusetts General Hospital, Neuropathic Pain Study Group and Harvard Medical School (Boston): $195,939 over two years to look for scientific proof of the existence of a syndrome involving chronic limb pain that has been difficult to diagnose.
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Association of America (Milford, Conn.): $20,000 to support greater public awareness of reflex sympathetic dystrophy, a painful neurological syndrome that affects as many as 1.5 million Americans.
University of Wisconsin at Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine: $94,300 for a workshop on the benefits of applying information on pain studies to animals.
West Virginia University (Morgantown): $115,000 to the Rural Infant Pain Management Project for a two-year statewide program aimed at reducing pain during infant immunizations.
