Tony Blair’s Charity Will Use Religion to Spur Economic Development

Tony Blair, the former prime minister of Britain, announced in New York on Friday the unveiling of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, a new charity that seeks to draw on religion as a source for economic development and conflict resolution, reports The New York Times.

The charity will help create an interfaith center in London and will develop educational materials about world religions. Additionally, it will encourage religious groups to work together on antipoverty projects. The first such project is part of the growing campaign to end the spread of malaria by distributing mosquito nets.

Mr. Blair declined to say how much money his foundation has raised, but a staff member for the effort confirmed by e-mail that individuals, charities, companies, and governments have given “tens of millions.”
