Federal prosecutors argued yesterday that a Texas charity sent at least $12-million to support Palestinian terrorists overseas, reports The Washington Post.
The Holy Land Foundation, once the nation’s largest Islamic charity, was shut down in 2001. The government says the group sent money to organizations that financed Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the federal government. According to the indictment, the group directed money to families of suicide bombers to “effectively reward past, and encourage future, suicide bombings and terrorist activities.”
“Holy Land had nothing to do with politics,” argued defense lawyer Nancy Hollander, according to the Associated Press. “Its focus was on children in need.”
