Twitter to Make Wine to Aid Literacy Charity

October 16, 2009 | Read Time: 1 minute

Twitter, the social-media site that is becoming increasingly popular among charities as a money- and consciousness-raising tool, is embarking on its first corporate fund-raising project, teaming with a winery to aid a literacy organization, reports the Associated Press.

In collaboration with Crushpad, a San Francisco firm that provides grapes, gear, and expertise for clients to produce wines to order, Twitter will produce a chardonnay and a pinot noir for release next summer. A quarter of the revenue will go to California charity Room to Read.

The wine, labeled Fledgling, will be the focus of a Twitter account at which followers can track the wines’ progress from grape-crushing to bottle.
