Two Historical Museums in Baltimore to Close Doors

Two Baltimore museums run by the Maryland Historical Society will close on September 1 to help solve a budget crisis, reports The Baltimore Sun.

Management concerns have troubled the organization in recent months, as the museum laid off 20 percent of its staff last year and a new director left his post within four months of starting work.

Closing the Maritime Museum and the Baltimore Civil War Museum will save about $50,000 each year and enable the group to eliminate its deficit in about a year, said Rob Rogers, the society’s new director and former chief financial officer.
