Update: Admissions Scandal Claims U. of Illinois Chancellor

Richard Herman resigned as chancellor at the University of Illinois Tuesday, becoming the latest and highest-ranking casualty of the firestorm over the school’s favored treatment of well-connected applicants, the Associated Press reports.
The Faculty Senate had called last month for both Mr. Herman and the university’s president, B. Joseph White, to step down. Mr. White plans to leave office in December. The head of the school’s board of trustees and six other members resigned in August over revelations that top university officials pushed for admission of students with links to big donors and prominent politicians.
Mr. Herman will remain at the university as a tenured math professor.
