Video Web Site Seeks to Encourage Online Gifts

A California nonprofit group seeks to open a new frontier in online giving by bringing video into the mix when donors go online looking for causes to support, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Visitors to World Flix can browse clips on food, water, sanitation and other projects in needy communities in the developing world, featuring interviews with local residents and information on how the money will be spent. The site will feature projects requiring less than $5,000, with a running tab on how much each has raised so far.

Laika Grant Mann, founder of the group, said she was inspired by a video her sons made and uploaded to YouTube, noting, “Anyone can film. You’re traveling in Africa and you upload the video to us.” She said all donated funds will go to designated projects; she is seeking grants to cover overhead.
