Transformational Philanthropy: Entrepreneurs and Nonprofits
by Lisa M. Dietlin

Entrepreneurs are the people most likely to make what the author calls “transformational” donations, meaning gifts that have a tremendous impact on a charity.

Lisa M. Dietlin, a fund-raising and donor consultant, says most nonprofit organizations do not seek out donations from small businesses, even though studies show that such people are the most generous, especially as their companies grow.

To find entrepreneurs interested in giving, she suggests asking board members and volunteers to point out successful local businesses, connecting to local chambers of commerce, reading local newspapers to find articles on business owners, and searching for civic clubs or economic organizations that may attract entrepreneurs.
