Woman Matches Couples for Love of Charity

A successful San Francisco matchmaker refuses money for her services, but instead encourages happily matched couples to donate time and money to charity, reports The New York Times.

Pari Livermore, wife of a co-founder of the Trust for Public Land, has raised more than $3-million in 19 years for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and other charities. Her romantic record is just as impressive: She has brought together more than 200 married couples.

Ms. Livermore raises money in multiple ways, including a donors’ circle of 60 men who contribute up to $10,000 a year to nonprofit groups; a biennial masquerade ball for charity that attracts 1,000 singles; and even a newly published book, How to Marry a Fabulous Man, from which 30 percent of proceeds will go toward charity.
