Workers Offer Advice on Landing Nonprofit Jobs

A career columnist has tried to answer one of the most common questions she receives — how to get a job in the nonprofit world — by asking readers for their stories in The Washington Post.
Mary Ellen Slayter’s column relates stories from seven people who took varying paths to their current position. Some started off as unpaid interns, some as once-a-week volunteers while maintaining a full-time job elsewhere.
The stories came mostly from executives, though many of them did not start off high on the ladder when they began working for their charity.
