World Vision Leader Pushes Church Role in Poverty Fight

Richard Stearns, head of the American arm of the global relief and development charity World Vision, is profiled by The Seattle Times.
Under Mr. Stearns — an agnostic-turned-evangelical who joined World Vision U.S. about 10 years ago after a corporate career —- the relief organization in Federal Way, Wash., has doubled the organization’s donors and tripled its revenue to $1.1-billion last year.
On the heels of a recently published book, The Hole in Our Gospel, he has embarked on a national campaign to enlist churches in the worldwide fight against poverty.
