Yoga Therapy Catches On With Nonprofit Groups

Yoga activists are increasingly persuading charities to integrate the exercise and meditation discipline into their services for the needy, reports The Washington Post.
Yoga organizations in several cities are working on therapeutic programs for troubled youths, HIV/AIDS patients, and sufferers of post-traumatic-stress syndrome.
“Yoga is exercise, and it’s pretty well established that exercise improves the mood and can reduce stress,” said Steven Novella, a Yale University neurologist who has written critically of alternative therapies such as acupuncture and herbalism. “These are pretty basic science-based claims.”
