How to Find Generous Donors

December 28, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

Connecticut, Minnesota, New York, and the District of Columbia are all especially good places to seek donors, three new studies find.

Blackbaud, the fund-raising software company, analyzed donors to 14 large nonprofit groups. It found that Connecticut had the highest percentage of donors who have given five or more years and that Washington, D.C., had the highest proportion of rich donors, people whose annual incomes are more than $100,000. You can see the breakdown here:

Similarly, a seven-year study by Network for Good looked at the most generous states by household according to the size of average gifts and the total donated per household. Minnesota ranked high in both categories because of a large, statewide campaign that encourages online giving. The study concludes that most high-performing states are on the East and West coasts.
