Background: Ms. Hill is an entrepreneur and a granddaughter of the oilman H.L. Hunt.

She pledged $50-million over five years to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for its Moon Shots Program, a research effort that focuses on eight cancers. Ms. Hill, 71, is a member of the center’s Board of Visitors and a survivor of breast cancer who says cancer has affected many members of her family.


In addition, she pledged $7-million to the Nature Conservancy for marine-conservation efforts, $4-million to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and $2-million to the Center for BrainHealth to help military service members and veterans recover from brain injuries and trauma. She gave an $100,000 to M.D. Anderson for special events and $50,000 to the National Geographic Society for membership in its International Council of Advisors.
