A Denver Post article cited in Wednesday’s Philanthropy Today incorrectly characterized plans by the Clyfford Still Museum, which is set to open next year in that city. The museum has filed a petition requesting the release of four works by the painter from the Patricia Still estate to the city of Denver for the ultimate purpose of raising funds for the museum’s endowment. However, no sale has been announced.

The museum’s collection, which encompasses items from both that estate and the Clyfford Still estate, includes about 2,400 works, about 400 of which come from the Patricia Still estate.

American Association of Museums and Association of Art Museum Directors ethics rules say revenue from the sale of items from a museum’s collection should be used only to acquire new works.
