D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Settles Rent Fight but Will Stay Put

September 23, 2013 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Shakespeare Theatre Company and its Washington, D.C., landlord have settled a rent dispute that threatened to evict the Tony Award-winning stage group from its longtime home, according to The Washington Post.

The Shakespeare Theatre’s suit against the owner of the Lansburgh Theatre could be formally dismissed as early as this week, keeping the troupe at the 450-seat venue where it has performed since 1992, the Post says. The Shakespeare Theatre went to court over a proposed rent increase from $70,000 a year to $480,000.

A lawyer for the building’s owner told a D.C. Superior Court judge during a brief hearing Friday that the parties have reached an agreement, but terms have not yet been disclosed.
