Foundation Withholds $5-Million African Governance Prize — Again

For the second straight year, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has decided not to award its $5-million prize for democratic leadership in Africa, says The Times.

Mr. Ibrahim, a Sudanese communications tycoon who resides in London, established the world’s largest individual award for statesmanship in 2006 to encourage good governance in Africa.

National leaders who have voluntarily stepped down in the past three years are eligible for the prize. But as in 2009, the prize committee headed by the former United Nations Secretary, Gen. Kofi Annan, declined to select a recipient.
