Grants Roundup: $25 Million From Koch Groups Backs Research at Black Colleges

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Charles Koch Foundation and Koch Industries

$25.6 million to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to open a center for research on education, criminal justice, and other issues affecting opportunities for people in fragile communities. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the center will provide scholarships, fellowships, and grants to students and faculty at historically black colleges and universities.

Koret Foundation

$10 million to Beit Hatfutsot: The Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Nearly $10 million to Pathfinder International to expand access to and study biases about contraceptives in multiple countries, including Burkina Faso and Tanzania.

Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation

$7 million to National Jewish Health, a medical center in Denver that treats respiratory, cardiac, and other disorders, to create the Molly Blank Pediatric Care Fund, which will subsidize care for pediatric patients.

Zillow Group

$5 million toward construction of the University of Washington’s new computer-science building. The project has attracted support from several other large technology companies, including Microsoft and Amazon.

Elton John AIDS Foundation

Nearly $3.5 million to 57 organizations working to support people living with HIV/AIDS.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

$3 million to Water for People for water programs in Uganda.

Alwaleed Philanthropies

$3 million over three years to the END Fund’s work to eliminate tropical diseases.

Duke Energy Foundation

$1 million to support United Way Suncoast’s neighborhood resource center in St. Petersburg, Fla.
