Grants Roundup: Target Commits $14 Million to Boost Youth Soccer

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Clooney Foundation for Justice, Google.org, HP

$3.25 million to Unicef to help seven public schools in Lebanon better serve refugee children.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association

More than $2.6 million to nonprofit arts and culture organizations and scholarship programs. Recipients include Santa Monica College, Veterans in Film & Television, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the Zimmer Children’s Museum, and public-radio series The Moth Radio Hour.

Charles E. Kaufman Foundation

$1.8 million to support science research at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State University, Swarthmore College, and University of Pennsylvania.

James H. and Irene M. Hunter Charitable Trust

$1.35 million to Southern Vermont College for a new student-wellness center.

Taube Philanthropies

$1.3 million to Rohr Chabad House at Stanford to create a new Jewish center near the university.

New Grant Opportunity

Target has committed $14 million to youth soccer programs. The retail company will give $8 million to organizations helping to increase young players’ access to the sport and $6 million to the U.S. Soccer Foundation to build 100 field spaces around the country by 2020. Applications for grants of $1,000 can be submitted through August 30.
