The Home Depot Foundation announced Thursday that it will spend another $250 million by 2025 to support building and improving houses for veterans, helping ex-warriors who are homeless, and other programs to help vets.

With its new commitment, the foundation brings to $500 million the sum it will spend on upgrades to homes for disabled and elderly veterans and helping homeless vets find places to live, among many other things, said Shannon Gerber, executive director of the foundation. The commitment to veterans began in 2011.

Home Depot’s employees have also volunteered thousands of hours to aid the nonprofit’s work building and improving veteran’s homes, according to the foundation.

The Home Depot Foundation receives donations from Home Depot but also raises money from other sources. The foundation declined to share how much the corporation contributes.

“We’re excited to make this commitment to increase our investment to $500 million,” Gerber said. “We’re in it for the long haul.”
