Iconiq Impact Awards $56 Million Through Its Education and Economic Mobility Co-Lab

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Iconiq Impact

$56 million across 16 grantees through its Education and Economic Mobility Co-Lab, which is awarding multiyear, unrestricted grants to organizations that are advancing equity in career pathways, behavioral health care, and family support systems in marginalized communities.

Among the grantees is Active Minds, which is receiving up to $3 million over three years to expand access to mental health care within 1,000 schools that teach kindergarten through 12th grade, and to back the organization’s Cause + Career program.


DeVos Family Foundation

$50 million to three pediatric-health organizations in Michigan.

The grants are $40 million to the Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, and $5 million each to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation and Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services.

Robert F. Wolfe and Edgar T. Wolfe Foundation

$50 million commitment to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for its new hospital tower, which is expected to open in 2026.

Enterprise Community Partners

$23.7 million to support 32 nonprofit groups in Detroit whose leaders or beneficiaries are Black, Indigenous, or people of color.

Of the total, $19.1 million in grants came through its Community Development Organization Fund and $4.6 million was granted from its Elevating Community Development Organization Fund. The two funds received support from the Ballmer Group, Kresge Foundation, Ford Foundation, Gilbert Family Foundation, Hudson-Webber Foundation, and Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.

The Ford Foundation is a financial supporter of the Chronicle.

Penn State THON

$17 million to Four Diamonds to pay for all medical expenses for the families with children with cancer who are being treated at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, and to back cancer research at Penn State College of Medicine.

Pfizer

$15 million to the American Cancer Society for a three-year project to address racial disparities in cancer care by expanding access to screenings, clinical-trial opportunities, and patient support in marginalized communities in the United States.

Eden Hall Foundation

$10 million over five years to support efforts by nonprofit organizations to revitalize Pittsburgh’s central business district as it continues to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The foundation’s pledge comes in partnership with the Heinz Endowments’ $10 million commitment to the same effort.

Amazon

$9 million to six organizations in the Seattle area that are serving homeless people and families in Washington’s Puget Sound region.

The grantees are Friends of Youth, Mary’s Place, Plymouth Housing, the YMCA of Greater Seattle, YouthCare, and the YWCA Seattle/King/Snohomish.

T.D. Jakes Foundation and Wells Fargo

$9 million to 16 community-based organizations across the United States to create financial-wellness centers, develop low-cost housing on underutilized land, offer career training for people from marginalized communities, and establish financial-literacy programs for students at historically Black colleges and universities.

Eagles Autism Foundation

$6.2 million to 34 projects to drive research on autism and enhance resources and services for neurodiverse people.

Mellon Foundation

$5.7 million to the Academy of American Poets to continue its poet laureate fellowships and the operations of the Poetry Coalition over the next three years.

Alro Steel

$5 million to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital to endow a scholarship fund that will offer tuition aid for residents of Jackson, Mich., who are seeking careers in health care.

The scholarships can be used at Spring Arbor University, Jackson College, and other local institutions.

Siegel Family Endowment and the Walton Family Foundation

$2.2 million through its Learning Landscapes Challenge, a prize competition to design and build educational programs that combine in-school, digital, and community components.

Mark Foundation for Cancer Research and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation

$1.5 million over two years to three research projects that study the link between aging and cancer.

The program has received additional support from the Melanoma Research Alliance.

Allstate Foundation

$1.4 million over three years to the Center for Survivor Agency and Justice for its work to support the economic needs of survivors of domestic violence.

New Grant Opportunity

MetLife Foundation is accepting proposals for grants through its Community Impact Grant Program to support grassroots organizations that are working in the focus areas of hunger relief and nutrition, physical and mental well-being, environmental sustainability, or quality of life. This year, the foundation will award a total of $1 million in grants worth between $5,000 and $50,000 each. Organizations must serve people in one of the seven eligible metropolitan areas: Cary, N.C.; New York; Omaha; Philadelphia; San Francisco; St. Louis; or Tampa, Fla. Applications are due March 15.
