Mount Sinai Will Develop Digital Health Institute: Grants Roundup

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Hasso Plattner Foundation
$15 million to the Mount Sinai Health System to establish the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health at Mount Sinai, which will enhance health-care delivery with machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Stewart and Marlene Greenebaum Family Foundation
$8 million to the McDonogh School, a private school in Owings Mills, Md., to build a new middle school.
Nationwide Foundation
$7 million to Ohio State University to build new facilities for the Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory and create a land-grant program for students in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
$6 million to three organizations to strengthen local newsrooms across the United States through business development, training, networking, and other resources. The Institute for Nonprofit News received $3.5 million, News Revenue Hub was awarded $1.5 million, and Local Independent Online News was granted $1 million.
J. Paul Getty Trust
$5 million to the Courtauld Institute of Art to endow its graduate program in wall-painting conservation.
SunTrust Foundation
$5 million to the Westside Future Fund to create affordable housing and economic development in Atlanta’s historic Westside neighborhoods.
J.M.R. Barker Foundation
$2.5 million to the University of Texas at San Antonio to establish a centralized “biobank” at UT Health San Antonio that will preserve specimens for biomedical research and advance research in areas including aging, Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and heart disease.
Gheens Foundation
$2 million unrestricted grant to the University of Louisville. The school intends to use $500,000 to improve campus security, and the rest will go into a strategic-planning fund.
Google.org
$2 million to UnidosUS for its CASA Code program, which will teach computer science and coding to Latino middle-school students.
Emerson
$1 million to Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum to open a new science, technology, engineering, art, and math center at the museum, and offer free educational programs for children from low-income families.
New Grant Opportunity
The Isagenix Legacy Foundation is accepting applications for grants to nonprofit organizations in its three mission areas: healthy nutrition and support for children; wellness education; and aid for those affected by natural disasters. Grants are worth up to $250,000 each per year, with the possibility of multiyear grants. In its first round of funding last year, the foundation awarded a total of $665,400 to 16 charities. Applications are due April 30.
